Contractor Training Program Manager

Johnstone Supply, Inc., the nation’s largest HVACR distribution Cooperative, has a great opportunity for a Contractor Training Program Manager to join our team. 

The individual in this position will work closely with our Johnstone stores and their customers, across the U.S. and Canada, to develop training programs for contractors that build the skills and abilities they need to be wildly successful in the HVACR field.  As a member of the Business Development team and reporting to the Director of Training & Business Development, the Contractor Training Program Manager is responsible for driving customer acquisition and loyalty through local store adoption of comprehensive contractor training strategies and programs.    This exciting position includes 50%-75% travel to beautiful locations throughout North America.

Specific responsibilities include:

  1. Developing & executing short- and long-term targeted plans with stores to implement strategic contractor training programs at the local level
  2. Coordinating the development of store contractor training programs, including evaluating and selecting training partners; sourcing high-quality training content & resources; and/or designing and developing custom training programs
  3. Maintaining and promoting contractor training best practices, including: positioning for customer acquisition & growth, store training profitability, training facilities/equipment, trainer competencies / hiring / onboarding, curriculum & programs, training materials, promotion and safety & compliance.
  4. Engaging with contractor training/accreditation organizations (i.e. ACCA, NATE, etc.) in support & promotion of Johnstone contractor training programs
  5. Evaluating training effectiveness and results through follow-up surveys, interviews, tests and by measuring specific business outcomes.

  • Ability to communicate information across individuals, departments, and external parties - including summary status reporting -- in order to influence attitudes or actions
  • Ability to effectively present information both orally and in writing, one-on-one, and in group situations
  • Ability to run effective meetings, including creating agendas, managing meeting activities and group dynamics, and managing pre- and post-meeting communications

 

Planning & Project Management

  • Demonstrated competency at establishing objectives, timelines and deadlines; and creating and executing action plans to meet deadlines

 

Training Development

  • Ability to define training objectives and standards
  • Ability to design, implement, and evaluate instructional strategies
  • Ability to write documents such as training manuals, guidelines, and promotional articles

General Business

  • Ability to use current presentation, word processing and spreadsheet programs (PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
  • Ability to budget and successfully work within budget requirements

Industry Knowledge & Education

  • Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) or equivalent; four to six years trade-contractor training experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Knowledge and experience working in wholesale distribution preferred
  • Knowledge of the HVAC/R distribution industry preferred
