Johnstone Supply, Inc., the nation’s largest HVAC/R wholesale distribution cooperative, has an immediate opening at our Jacksonville Distribution Center for a Shipping Dock Supervisor.  This position is directly responsible for supervising a staff of Material Handlers responsible for shipping dock operations, emergency/rush order processing, order verifications, and loading of outbound shipments.

The job duties for Shipping Dock Supervisor are listed below:

  1. Ensures Johnstone stores receive the Right Product at the Right Time and in the Right Condition by: monitoring the daily dock consolidation and order processing; checking shipping documents for accuracy and making certain all freight bills are signed; answering questions related to the outbound shipments; coordinating emergency or unusual shipments with truck lines; and ensuring Distribution standard operating procedures are followed.
  2. Ensures a safe work environment by: observing and coaching employees; removing potential safety hazards; maintaining a clean work area.
  3. Maintains department staff by: conducting interviews in the hiring process and making recommendations; overseeing the training of new employees and cross training of existing employees; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees as necessary; and conducting annual performance reviews.
  4. Ensures established performance standards and budgets are met by reviewing weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports and taking necessary actions.
  5. Maintains communication between employees and supervisors by conducting bi-monthly department meetings.
  6. Attends daily warehouse staff meetings and makes recommendations for handling volume of work.
  7. Acts as backup for Shipping Supervisor and the Receiving Supervisor.
  8. Maintains Distribution building by locking up and securing building at day end, and handling building maintenance when needed.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (G.E.D.);
  • Three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (College degree preferred.)
  • Knowledge of aspects related to the shipping of products in distribution industry.
  • Knowledge of human resource management principles, including hiring, training and orienting, coaching, and evaluating employees.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Problem-solving skills:  listening to, interpreting, and meeting the needs of others; diagnosing and rectifying problems.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and direct the activities of subordinates.
  • Ability to develop efficient work procedures.
  • Ability to listen to others to identify concerns and needs.
  • Ability to communicate with others in order to influence attitudes and actions.
  • Skill in facilitating open lines of communication.
  • Ability to communicate information across different individuals, departments, and external parties.
  • Ability to attend to details.
  • Ability to complete paperwork and necessary documentation.
  • Ability to work with others in a team-based environment.
