Johnstone Supply, Inc., a national leading wholesaler of HVACR parts, equipment and tools has a Distribution Center in the Joliet, Illinois area.  We are seeking qualified Inventory Control Supervisor candidates.  Our Joliet facility, approximately 236,000 square feet, is a fast paced operation that provides high level quality service to our Midwest membership base.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supervise inventory control personnel to ensure compliance to cycle counts and inventory procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate inventory counts by:  performing daily cycle counts of locations and parts; monitoring put-away activities; monitoring and maintaining data consistency between databases; and research inventory discrepancies found during picking.
  • Supervise and/or perform system adjustments based on cycle counts, short picks, or inventory audits.
  • Leads the IDC Quality Improvement Initiative by analyzing store returns data; performs root cause analysis; highlights/identifies trends; generates reporting; identifies opportunities and areas of process improvement.
  • Assist in determining “ideal locate” practices for all new parts.
  • Assist in resolving receiving exceptions and discrepancies by:  working with receiving processors and Supervisors to research inbound receipt problems; serving as liaison between the DC and Corporate Office in determining how to handle discrepancies; and monitoring problem receipts to ensure Return Authorizations are received in a timely manner.
  • Analyze system reports to ensure inventory accuracy is maintained within SXe and TWL.
  • Re-profiles inventory and inventory locations based on direction from DC Manager.
  • Analyze store returns
  • Assist in ensuring established receiving best practices are utilized by: rotating between jobs and working with co-workers to determine processes being used; providing coaching or training when inventory errors exist; and leading meetings to improve processes or communicate issues in the area of Inventory Control.
  • Communicate inventory anomalies to DC Manager in order to address inventory variances.
  • Maintain proficient level of skill in picking, stocking, and replenishment for purposes of fill in when needed.
  • Maintain a safe work environment by working in a safe manner, following current Distribution safety rules, maintaining equipment, and maintaining a clean work area.
  • Coordinates all inventory audit activities including year-end close audits.
  • Coordinates DC activities with Corporate Inventory Control Manager to deplete corporate and the stores overstock and dead inventory.
  • Coordinate the monthly Automated Return Program for Johnstone Members to ensure efficient and timely processing of returns. Works directly with the Inventory Control Manager, Director of Procurement, and VP of Supply Chain to maximize the liquidation of the stores’ overstock through all available means.
  • Coordinates the IDC Worker’s Compensation program and claims procedures, in compliance with safety and health requirements, by completing necessary paperwork and forwarding to the insurance carrier as well as the Corporate Office.
  • Provides administrative support to the IDC Manager by screening phone calls, researching problems, providing information to callers collecting data, and other administrative functions.
  • Performs back up support to the IDC Customer Service and Cycle Counting positions by becoming fully cross trained in those position duties.

Ideal candidates will have:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Bachelor’s Degree highly preferred.
  • Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of industry practices and company policies and procedures; resolves a wide range of issues in imaginative as well as practical ways. This job is the fully qualified career oriented journey-level position.
  • Ability to learn and use ERP software application as it relates to all inventory management and report functions.
  • Knowledge of product purchasing, pricing structures, inventory control.
  • Knowledge of product storage and distribution.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to acquire and maintain technical understanding of products being purchased
  • Ability to use current MS Office applications (i.e., Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to collect and synthesize large amounts of data to draw valid conclusions.
  • Problem-solving skills:  listening to, interpreting, and meeting the needs of others; diagnosing and rectifying problems.
  • Ability to design and implement efficient procedures and processes.
  • Skill in developing effective working relationships with individuals from different organization levels.
  • Skill in communicating with others in a tactful and professional manner.
  • Ability to listen to others to identify needs and concerns.
  • Ability to clearly present information in one-on-one and group situations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Effectively communicate: Problem, Recommended Solution, Timeline and Key Metrics.
  • Ability to complete work with a minimum of supervision.
